Originally an ethereal vocal hook inspired by Hiatus Kaiyote, doubled with Jaco Pastorius-inspired Electric Bass chords, ‘Misty Eyes’ developed into a whole-band collaboration in several writing sessions.
From a first-person lyrical perspective, we capture a dissociative episode that the protagonist fears they won’t overcome. The motif heard in the introduction and outro is a wynorrific take on the illusive reality they face in day-to-day life. The lyrical theme was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland: We used his idea of falling down the rabbit-hole as a metaphor for feeling simultaneously lost and trapped in your own mind. Despite the initial disorientation, by the end of the song the speaker is able to find peace with reality at last.
lyrics
Slowly I descend into mad,
Playing like a child no pretend oh,
Taking baby steps on these freshwater lands,
Fall into dream calling me misty eyes.
Freedom come see me,
Don’t you just leave me,
In with the hands of the beast,
Don’t let me get caught up,
I’m dealing with my heart,
But this life,
It caught me red handed.
I can’t give you,
Something,
I can’t give you,
Loving.
You gotta be quick,
Cause it chases you,
Guess the lessons I learned,
Never did me no good,
Led me right into this maze,
I don’t know this way,
Freedom shouldn’t feel this way,
There’s no escape,
But this life,
It caught me red handed
I can’t give you,
Something,
I can’t give you,
Loving.
Fall,
Dream,
Keep me,
Wrapped in silver lining,
My love holds me,
Why do I feel out of reach?
Fall,
Dream,
Keep me,
Wrapped in silver lining,
(Keys Solo)
Slowly I descend into mad,
Playing like a child no pretend oh,
Taking baby steps on these freshwater lands,
Fall into dream,
Calling me misty eyes.

Georgie’s voice has the depth, energy and expression of an already established artist. Awesome production/keys, beats and bass supports this vocal talent with a precision rare for a first album venture. So beautifully balanced this album looks to be a gem in anyone’s collection, another great work from Futuristica Music. alastair marriott / DjSquirrel
Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
